As more and more employees head back to the office, what can employers do to protect workers from Covid-19?
Most businesses have initiated new protocols including temperature readings, social distancing, increased surface cleaning, etc. In addition to these mitigation strategies, the CDC’s December update on Ventilation in Buildings said:
- “Consider ventilation system upgrades or improvements and other steps to increase the delivery of clean air and dilute potential contaminants.”
- “Consider using ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) as a supplement to help inactivate SARS-CoV-2, especially if options for increasing room ventilation are limited.
- Upper Room UVGI systems can be used to provide air cleaning within occupied spaces, and in-duct UVGI systems can help enhance air cleaning inside central ventilation systems.
Many local companies have installed these UV upper-room units in their common and high-traffic areas. These devices are easy to install, silent, require virtually no maintenance and are perfect for gathering areas like employee break rooms, lunch areas, conference rooms, welcome areas.
The UV upper-room units are installed and commissioned to provide UV to blanket the space above people’s heads, This installation disinfects the air as it circulates throughout the room, yet doesn’t allow UV to shine on occupants. This installation has been successfully used since 1937 to control airborne pathogens, and is recommended throughout the world to fight other respiratory diseases like tuberculosis.
See photos of last week’s installations below. In each installation, installers using UVC meters commissioned the units, ensuring adequate coverage above people’s heads and no UVC on occupants.
